Reformation Lutheran Childcare Center

Mission Statement

We see each child as God’s gift and we care for each one with Christian compassion, love, and understanding through age appropriate learning and activities.

Reformation Lutheran Childcare Center started in September of 1998 as an outreach ministry of Reformation Lutheran Church. Through this ministry the congregation seeks to live out Christ’s words in Matthew’s gospel, “whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” The practices and daily activities of the center are rooted squarely in the Christian understanding. Each child is recognized for his/her infinite worth as God’s creation. In all areas, the center operates as an extension of Christ’s love.

kids with animals  The Childcare Center is a religious, non-profit, tax exempt child care center. Parents supply breakfast and lunch for their child and the center provides a morning and afternoon snack. We strive to meet all state licensing standards. Our student to staff ratios is lower than those required by the state. Our qualified childcare professionals meet all guidelines required for the state including two criminal record checks, training in cardio-pulmonary-resuscitation (CPR) and first aid, and a physical examination and on-going training. Each week children ages one and older can participate in Bible stories, singing Christian songs, learning musical instruments, gymnastics and other activities. Table prayers are offered before each meal and snack.

Curriculum

The High Reach Curriculum is used at Reformation’s Childcare Center (as in some Head Start programs and YMCA centers). All curriculum programs are based on the philosophy that children learn best through hands-on activities that address the needs of the whole child. In addition, each High Reach Learning curriculum reflects the belief that children need a balance of child-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities each day. This approach is grounded in sound child development theory and appropriate practices. Themes are used to introduce information and learning takes place as a child explores and manipulates real objects and events.

Age Groups

infant  Infant care includes large and small muscle development, language development and social/ emotional    development in a caring and loving atmosphere. Staff members strive to maintain the same schedule the infant has followed and work closely with parents. The center enrolls a maximum of eight infants with a staff ratio of 1 teacher per 4 infants.

toddler  The toddler program, ages 12- 24 months, encourages vocabulary building, development of small and large muscle skills, creativity and sensory exploration. Children participate in art and craft activities and music throughout the day. Children go outdoors morning and afternoon, weather permitting.

The curriculum guides a two-year-old’s enthusiasm towards active exploration. This program builds early math, language, and science concepts through hands on activities. Social and emotional development is promoted through group and free choice activities.

pre-kinder Pre-kindergarten (three and four year old) curriculum makes learning more meaningful to children with monthly themes featuring activities to keep children actively involved while building school readiness skills. These skills include math, science, language and literacy through teacher guided and independent activities. Problem solving and creativity are also skills that are utilized in this program.

Care is provided for children ages six through twelve years of age, who attend local elementary schools. Transportation is provided to several area schools. Children have an opportunity to complete homework, participate in child chosen activities and use the outdoor playground before being picked up by their parents. During the summer months, a summer day camp is offered. Children embark on several field trips, have water play day and spend time making crafts.
